WP:

     In the chapter titled The Rise and Fall of Stocks, Albert, Debray and the count talk about how Danglars makes his money. Debray says that he gets the stock information from his job as the Minister's secretary, then tells Madame Danglars.  She then goes home and tells her husband Danglars.  He then uses this information to buy and sell his stocks.  This is illegal.  It's called "insider trading."

Day 54

Objective:  The students will read Act 2.

WP Activity:  Twelve Angry Men

     Reginald Rose, the author of the Drama Twelve Angry Men, said that he wrote the play from personal experience.  A month before he wrote it he sat on a jury in a man slaughter case in New York.  He walked into the courtroom with a grim miserable attitude.  But as soon as he found himself facing the man who’s fate was in his hands, his attitude changed.

Day 51

Objective:  The students will know important vocabulary for the play that we are going to read.

1.  Get the handouts.  You will only need to define each word, connotation and syllables.  NO SENTENCES needed on this one.  Then do the vocab exercises using the words.

2.  Make sure that you have read MC Chapters 33-34 and completed the study guide questions for them.

Day 50

Objective:  The students will write another AP Quality Body Paragraph using Monte Cristo.

1.  Discuss Chapter 32.  The Count goes to visit Danglars.

2.  Finish yesterday's paragraph.

3.  Write today's paragraph.

4.  Read Chapters 33-34.

Objective:  The students will write a great AP style paragraph on Chapter 31.

2.  AP Style writing to this prompt:  Open the doc in GC and set up MLA.

3.  Read Chapter 32:  "Unlimited Credit." 

In Chapter 31, "The Presentation," from The Count of Monte Cristo, Dantes and Mercedes meet for the first time in 23 years.  using textual evidence, explain how the reader knows that Mercedes recognizes Dantes as the Count of Monte Cristo.

Day 48

Objective:  The students will see/hear the best soundtrack for the Monte Cristo Project ever.  They will only hope to make one so amazing.

1.  Get out a sheet of paper.  Put proper heading on it.  Title it Monte Cristo Song Quiz.

2.  Take the quiz.  It's worth 25 points.

3.  Read Chapter 31:  "The Presentation"  Where the Count meets Fernand and Mercedes for the first time in 23 years!!!!  (Remember, Fernand is now called Count Morchef. 

Day 47

Objective:  The students will finish MC Study Guide.

Day 46

Objective:  The students will discuss Monte Cristo Chapter 28.

3.  Read Chapter 29 and study guide.

      In Rome for the carnival the Count sits and has breakfast with Albert and Franz.  They discuss the coming executions.  And the Count says that he has been working on getting one of the men a reprieve.  Later Franz notices a the banners hung from the Counts windows, which are a signal to Luigi Vampa that his man is not going to be hung.  The boys then leave on the Count's carriage and they flirt with some pretty young girls.  Later that night Albert gets a letter telling him to meet one of them.

Day 45

Objective:  The students will read Chapter 28.

1.  WP # 19:  Monte Cristo and Albert and Franz.

2.  Read Chapter 28 and complete study guide questions.  

Go down to the library in groups of five and print Voice Writing.  Make sure your name and period are on it.

     In Chapter 26 and 27 of The Count of Monte Cristo, the setting is Rome 23 years after Dante's imprisonment.   Two new characters are introduced; Albert Morchef and Franz d'Epinay.  They are teenagers on vacation for the carnival.  While out sightseeing Franz overhears The Count of Monte Cristo talking to the bandit named, Luigi Vampa.  Vampa says that one of his men is set to be hung and if the Count can free him, he will owe 'complete devotion' to the Count.

 

Day 41

Objective:  The students will close read their new short story.

2.  Close Read "The Secret Lion."  This story we are working on voice analysis.  Tone, diction and syntax.  As well as all the past things that we have discussed.

3.  Make sure that you have read Monte Cristo up to Chapter 27 by the time I get back.

Day 39

Objective:  The students will read the chapters where Dantes repays Mr. Morrel for trying to help.

3.  Read Chapters 24-25.  Be ready for a quiz tomorrow. 

WP:

     In the chapter titled The Prison Register, a mysterious white man visits the Mayor of Marseilles. The Mayor tells him to go see the Inspector of Prisons.  The inspector told him that Mr. Morrel owes him $200,000.  That mysterious man pays the debt for Mr. Morrel, butt he also steals the letter that Danglars and Fernando wrote that got Dantes arrested.  Mr. Morrel now owes the mysterious man $200,000.

Day 38

Objective:  The students will discuss two of the best chapters of Monte Cristo.

Day 37

Objective:  The students will know the three types of point of view and be able to identify each type used in literature.

WP:

     When authors write an essay where they try to make a convincing argument they will use one or more of three appeals to the reader.  These appeals are called ethos pathos and logos.  Ethos is where the author creates credibility.   Pathos is where they will appeal to the readers emotions.  And logos is where they use logic.  Good writers will try to use all three in their argument.

Day 36

Objective:  The students will complete their character sketch. Writing Standards 1.4 and 1.7.  

Learning Target:  Students will be able to create a character.

2.  Color Code Direct to Indirect using three different colored highlighters.  Make a key for me.

3.  Get out Monte Cristo:  In a small group, analyze how Dantes escape is a metaphor/symbol of Baptism.

Day 35

Objective:  The students will complete their character sketch. Writing Standards 1.4 and 1.7.  Learning Target:  Students will be able to create a character 6.9. and 321.

Day 34

Objective:  The students will create a character using indirect characterization.

2.  Note on AI:  If I catch you using AI, I will fail you.  Period.  No more said.  You use NO Brain when you have AI do all the thinking for you.  I will also talk to your counselor and have you transferred to a regular literature class since Honors is not right for you.

3.  Discuss Chapter 17:  Dantes is FREE!

4.  Direct to Indirect Creative Writing.  Open doc in GC, set up the doc in MLA format.  Create your character sketch.

5.  Read Chapter 18-19 (8 pages).  25 point quiz tomorrow.

Objective:  The students will complete more analysis of "Two Kinds."
