Essays Due

You guys have worked pretty hard for the last week.  Good job!

Objective:  The students will look at the main symbol for the first half of the book.... Dantes' Baptism.

1.  Turn in your essay.  No need for prompt on top.
2.  Discuss Chapter 25
3.  Get a Baptism Symbol Handout.
4.  Use Chapters 16-20 to analyze how Dantes' Escape is a Symbol of a Baptism.

Homework:  Nothing.

District Writing Test

Objective:  The students will put all that we have talked about and practiced over the last month to use today to write a GREAT in class essay for the district.

1.  Get out three sheets of paper.
2.  Get prompt.  Put name and period on all papers.
3.  Read prompt:  Highlight what you need to do in order to pass.
4.  Briefly plan. (Summarize the author's argument.  Discuss if you agree or disagree with it, using strong examples from text and life).  TITLE??????????
5.  Write.

Homework:  Print, Proof, Edit, and Re-print essay to be turned in tomorrow.

Finish that Essay

Objective:  The students will use class time to finish their essay, proof read, edit, and make it an A paper that Mr. Warren and Mr. McDermitt can read in less than 2 minutes!

1.  MC Quiz Chapters 21-24 and discuss any questions that you have.
2.  Finish all parts of the essay.

Intro
Body 1:  Story Explanation 1
Body 2:  Story Explanation 2
Body 3:  Argument:  Which story is most likely to come true using an informational article as support of your thoughts.
Close:  Apply what you have proven to the bigger picture.

No reading tonight.  Just read your essay and catch the easy errors so that Mr. Warren has a nice weekend and doesn't want to throw things through his window!

If you are not getting into Monte Cristo.... Check your pulse!

Objective:  The students will write their first two paragraphs of their expository/argumentative essay.

1.  Get your lit books and folders.
2.  Discuss Chapters 16-17 (Those were GREAT chapters!!).  What does Dantes look like now?
3.  Discuss Writing Prompt and write your thesis that you are going to prove.  "Yes, but so"
4.  Write the intro (follow the inverted triangle format for a perfect intro)
5.  Write the first body paragraph (what paragraph would be most logical to put first?)

Homework:  read Chapters 18-20 (that's only 11 pages!!)  Sit by the pool, relax, read a GREAT book!

First Essay... Due Tomorrow

Objective:  The students will share their first two body paragraphs and then complete the writing of the essay.  The paper will be turned in tomorrow.

1.  WP # _____
2.  Share one or two student essays.  Be brave... volunteer.
3.  Closing Paragraph Discussion:  Apply what you have proven to the "Bigger Picture."
4.  Finish Essay.  Read it and edit.  Print out.  Edit again.  Print it again for me.

Remember:  MLA.  Heading.  Title.  Double Space.

Objective:  The students will see some examples of how to start the essay and then write some of the body.

1.  Student Examples of Intros.
2.  Body Paragraphs:  How do you use a quote?  Quote Sandwich!
3.  Write Body.  Outline First the three body paragraphs/Topic Sentences.

Homework:  Complete at least paragraph 2 and 3 of the essay!  I will need more examples tomorrow.
