Objective:  The students will continue Twelve Angry Men video.

1.  One more day of the movie.

2.  How is Stump the Teacher coming along?  Remember Thursday you need 10 chapters read and 20 questions/answers.

Day 59

Objective:  The students will have two days of rest in here and just watch the movie of the play that we just read.

1.  Twelve Angry Men movie.  If you don't want to watch it, that's fine, but be quiet.  You can work on Stump the Teacher questions for Monte Cristo Chapters 51-60.

 

Day 58

Objective:  The students will finish the play.

1.  How you will read Chapters 51-60 of Monte Cristo:  Stump the Teacher 

Read Chapters 51-60 by next Thursday:  For each chapter, write two HARD questions and answers.  Next Thursday, we will play Stump the Teacher.  You will be able to ask ME any question that you like, and if I don't know it, you will get 5 points of Extra Credit on the assignment.

You will have a ONE Question Quiz before we play.  If you don't know the answer, you can not play, you will write an essay instead.

Objective:  The students will read Act II.

Objective:  The students will read Act One of the drama.

3.  Read/Act the drama.  Everyone not having a role, follow along.  Phone out means I take it for the day.  The entire day.

Day 55

Objective:  The students will analyze character personalities based on connotations of their description.

Day 54

Objective:  The students will discuss Monte Cristo, clean out that corrected work folder, and read a new bit of MC.

Day 52

 Objective:  The students will complete their analysis of "The Beginning of Grief" and its symbol.

5.  Monte Cristo Chapter 55:  My favorite!  The Count goes to a party at Mercedes house and she questions him outside.  So good!!

 

WP The Beginning of Grief and Night

     Many student’s struggle with difficult novels or challenging texts.  They often think that 1 reading of the work is enough.  This belief, leads to primary comprehension at the surface level.  But they are frequently unwilling or unable to discover deeper meanings of multi-layered works.  This is often the case with the short story titled The Beginning of Grief and the novel titled Night.

Day 51

Objective:  The students will read a great story about single parenting and loss.

1.  Discuss MC Chapters 41-42 (Three strikes)

2.  "The Beginning of Grief" reading.  This is a longer story, we will take two days so you don't have to rush to finish it.

Objective:  The students will put three previously written paragraphs into a cohesive, well written essay.

Objective:  The students will show that they read the two chapters (a total of 13 pages).

Day 46

Objective:  The students will discuss how the author of The Secret Lion used a distinctive voice through his creative use of childlike diction and syntax.

Read the school's newspaper!  It is back after six years of waiting!

Day 43, 44, and 45

Objective:  The students will work with "The Secret Lion" short story and author's use of creative voice.

I appreciate you all for being great for the sub.  I know that I can trust you to work and be respectful.  I am giving you three days off of Monte Cristo so that I can explain it to you.

Thursday:  1) Copy Notes first on voice.

                  2) Close Read "The Secret Lion."  I am looking for you to highlight and annotate everything that you have learned this year.  All parts of plot, conflicts, characters, symbols or metaphors, point of view, irony, etc.

Friday:  "The Secret Lion" Handout.  Complete all questions.

Monday:   Creative Writing:  Voice Handout:  Write 4 solid paragraphs in different voices as instructed.

Day 42

Objective:  The students will write another AP Style Paragraph to be included in a later essay.
