First Quarter Midterm

Objective:  The students will type up their example of their best writing for tomorrow's Midterm.

1.  Type up your Secret Lion paragraph.  It is worth 50 points of your 100 point midterm tomorrow.

Here is how I will grade it:

1)  MLA (if not in propoer MLA format it will not be read). -50 points
2)  Specific information -10 pointas for each time I feel that a specific example from text is needed.
3)  Quote use -25 if it does not have a quote from the text properly used and exp[lained
4)  Writing rules and grammar errors -5 for EACH error.

Note:  You can end up with a NEGATIVE grade on this which will bring down the second part of your MIDTERM, which is your complete and organized folder.  50 points.  -10 for each paper that is not secure or in the wring section.

2.  Turn in Chapters 41-50 Study Guide
3.  Stump the Teacher assignment discussion:  2 Questions for EACH chapter.  20 total from Chapters51-60.  Questions and answers.

Tuesday 59=60
Wednesday:  Stump the Teacher (possibility for up to 25 extra credit points)

1.  WP #21 (follow the directions!  This one is different from normal.
2.  The Secret Lion questions and writing.
3.  Monte Cristo Chapter 50.  Study Guide due tomorrow.

NOTE:  I will not accept the 100 point study guide if you FAIL tomorrow's quiz.  Too many people are not reading, and just copying.

3.  Put in your folder.  Organized and neat for folder check.  ADD NOTES

Objective:  The students will be able to identify point of view and which type is most reliable.

Short Day: And only one chapter. One of my favorites!

Objective:  The students will see how authors try to get a point across to the reader without specifically saying it straight out.

1.  MC Chapters 43-44 Quiz
2.  Discuss the "subtle" way that the author (and one of the characters) hints at something major happening in the book.
3.  The Secret Lion vocab.
4.  Read MC Chapter 45.  The Summer Ball.  Monte Cristo goes to a ball at Fernand and Mercedes home.  (Poor Mercedes!!!)

Our last story with the focus on Characterization

Objective:  The students will read a short story and analyze the characters.

1.  Get lit books and folders.  Grab the handout too.
2.  WP #18 (is it?)
3.  Read the story By Any Other Name" on page 113.  Focus on the characters.
4.  Complete handout as time permits.

Homework:  MC Chapters 41 (the one about a telegraph and stocks) and 42 (the one about Monte Cristo's dinner party where he invites his enemies!)

Projects Day

Objective:  The students will get into their groups to work on projects.

1.  No quiz today or WP.
2.  Work on Movie Posters:  Find physical Description of characters to use to find your "actor"
            For Example:  What does Fernand look like?  See page 236.
3.  Work on Movie Soundtrack:  Discuss and look for songs that would be PERFECT for scenes in the book.

How should the CD be "packaged" and turned in?

Homework:  Read Chapters 32-33. 

IF I DON'T SEE EVERYONE WORKING ON PROJECTS (or reading MC) then that person will be assigned a different (and much less fun) project (Essay Collection of 5 different essays).

Never Trust What You Read on the Internet

Objective:  The students will create characterization charts for the three main characters in Everyday Use.

1.  Get folders and lit books.
2.  Get the handout.
3.  With a partner, complete both sides of the chart.

Reading:  Chapters 26-27.  Note:  It is now 1838!!!!  Nine years has gone by since Mr. Morrel was SAVED in Chapter 25.  What has Dantes been doing for all of those years??
