Objective:  The students will present (respectfully) their satires.  Others will listen respectfully.

1.  Present group satires.  If you are on your phone while someone is presnting, you lost 30 points off of your satire grade.

2.  Complete 51-60 Chapters and Stump the Teacher Questions.  Due tomorrow!  Quiz also!!!!

Objective:  The students will work quietly on Stump the Teacher.  

1.  Get out your book, get out your paper and pen.  

2.  Work on your questions that you will ask me.  Make sure you READ the chapters, don't just skim for questions.  THIS WILL NOT HELP YOU PASS THE QUIZ!

3.  You don't want to have to write an essay in class in 45 minutes.

 

Day 57

Objective:  The students will begin working on their own satire to present to class on Thursday.

2.  Get into groups or work individually to come up with your group satire.  It can mock anuthing that you would like to see changed in the world.  It can be in any form:  song, poem, poster, advertisement, news show, whatever...  Just have fun with it.

3.  Stump the Teacher work:  Remember on Friday.  Chapters 51-60 of MC two questions/answers for each chapter.

Objective:  The students will discuss Monte CRisto Chapter 50 and begin on Stump the Teacher questions.

2.  MC 50 Quiz

3.  Turn in MC 41-50 Study Guide

4.  Stump the Teacher next Friday.

a)  Read MC Chapters 51-60.

b)  For each chapter, write a minimum of TWO Questions with Answers that you think that I won't know.

c)  You have to have ALL chapters read by next Friday to participate in Extra Credit "Game."  I will have a quiz on all chapters before.  If you pass, you play.  If you fail, you write an essay.

Objective:  The students will see two examples of a different type of literature and discuss the purpose.

What is a satire?  A satire is any type of writing that pokes fun of some aspect of human behavior.

 

What are some characteristics of a satire?  Exaggeration, irony, humor, ridicule, sarcasm, and fictional characters that represent real people.

 

How are satires written?  A satire can be either bitter and mean or gentle and humorous.  They often are written to insult or hurt those it’s written about.

 

What is a satire’s purpose?  They are written to change human behavior.  They try to point out the foolishness of some of our attitudes and behaviors.

 

What are some types of satires?  Novels, essays, stories, movies, plays and poems (songs)

 

Satires have themes, usually they are universal.

1.  We really need to get the book done in two weeks.  So today, since the chapters are long, I am asking you to read in class.

3.  Writing:  Write your own theme poem.  What is YOUR statement about life that you want to make as a 14-16 year old?

4.  Read Chapter 45....  The Count of MC and Mercedes...  This is a great chapter!

4.  Scan your own test.  Write your score on the sheet next to your name.
