Close Reading:  100 points.  You know what is expected.

Oral Question:  100 points for 1st, 70 points for 2nd, 40 points for 3rd.  No points (650) if you miss them all.

Page Total:  250 points for 250+ pages.

Written Report:  200 Points.

Note:  To say the least, I was super disappointed with yesterday's Stump the Teacher.  I try to give out extra credit, I give 9 days to read 70 pages.  And I got that.  Some of you should be asking yourself why you took an Honors Literature class if you refuse to read.😡

Here is the schedule for upcoming things:

Monday after break Nov 27:  Soundtrack Due.  It better not look like you spent an hour on it when you have had two months to do it.

Monday after break:  Monte Cristo Final:  Finish the book on your own.  300 points to your grade.  100 questions.

Monday Dec. 18:  Book Report and Outside Reading Due:  650 Points to grade.

Objective:  The students will test me on my knowledge of Chapter 51-60.

1.  Quick Quiz to play.  Get out a scrap of paper and a pen.  Also show me your completed questions.

Objective:  The students will complete their original Theme poem.

1.  Finish and Print your original theme poem.

2.  Today we will have no new assignment.  You will finish your poem and have it printed by the end of the period and you will work on Stump the Teacher.

Objective:  The students will complete their original Theme poem.

1.  Type your original theme poem.

2.  Tomorrow we will have no new assignment.  You will finish your poem and have it printed by the end of the period and you will work on Stump the Teacher.  If you miss tomorrow, no problem, you are still responsible for completing both by Monday.

Day 61

Objective:  The students will complete the poem analysis and begin their own writing.

Last Thursday the sub found some ear buds...  Are they yours?

What is Voice?  It is the writer’s special use of language in a story that includes diction and tone.

       1)  Diction:  The kinds of words a writer chooses.  It can be formal, informal, poetic, plain, etc..

       2)  Tone:  Is the attitude a writer takes toward the audience, a subject or character.  It is conveyed through the writer’s choice of words.  It can be humorous, sad, or friendly, etc…

 Remember The Secret Lion:

      What happened was there were teachers now, not just one teacher, teach-erz, and we felt personally abandoned somehow.  When a person had all these teachers now, he didn’t get taken care of the same way, even though six was more than one.  Arithmetic went out the door when we walked in.  And we saw girls now, but they weren’t the same girls that we used to know because we couldn’t talk to them anymore, not the same way we used to, certainly not to Sandy, even though she was my neighbor too.  Not even to her.  She just played the piano all the time.  And there were words, oh there were words in junior high school, and we wanted to know what they were, and how a person did them---that’s what school was supposed to be for.  Only, in junior high school, school wasn’t school, everything was backwardlike.

Objective:  The students will practice AP style writing using two scenes from Monte Cristo.

a)  When Mercedes meets the Count of Monte Cristo for the first time in 24 years, does she recognize him?

b)  Explain the metaphor of the treasure when Monte CRisto meets Danglars for the first time in 24 years.

1.  Complete writing your sketch.  Make sure when you are done that you print it out.  Then, use three different colored highlighters to find and LABEL all three parts of indirect characterization for me.

2.  Weekend off of any homework.  Go to the game tomorrow and support the football team, the cheer squad and ASB.  They work hard!

CST Activity: “Two Kinds”

 

     In the “Two Kinds” a conflict arises in a chinese American family when a strong-willed mother is bent on seeing her daughter become a prodigy.  She simply wants to be herself.  As the mother pushes the child the young girl becomes de-moralized and angry after several failures.  This is an example of an External, Man Versus Man conflict.
