What is a Hero?

Objective:  The students will read about a hero and think about who they will want to research for their Person/Hero of the Year for 2016.

1.  Correct Vocab
2.  WP #1 (DO NOT WRITE ON THE PAPER THAT I GIVE YOU!)
3.  Listen/Read "Man in the Water" essay.
4.  Close Read the essay with the purpose of identifying:  Key info and chunk
          * Key participants
          * Setting
          * Conflict
          * Main argument
          * Key claims made to support argument
          * Overall tone of the piece
          *

5.  Use your phones to explore Time Person of the Year people and CNN Hero's of the Year.

A New Start

Objective:  The students will know important vocabulary for The Research Paper Unit.

1.  Get folders and sit anywhere.  I know all of you now, so you don't have to sit alphabetically.  But sit by someone who will not cause you to be distracted.

2.  Folders:  Clean out everything EXCEPT Notes and Important Handouts (Honors Book List and Book Report Format).

3.  Get the two handouts.

4.  Complete Vocabulary Assignment.

5.  Tomorrow we will discuss Outside Reading for 2nd semester.

Finals Week: Relax... You're too young for stress!

Objective:  Do as well as you can on today's final.

1.  Get test booklet and answer sheet.

2.  Take test.

3.  Scan test when you are finished.

4.  Write the grade (percentage on it and bring it to me).

5.  Get semester grade.

6.  If you want any old work or projects, take them today.

Have you figured out your Theme for life???

Objective:  The students will dig DEEP and create a strong theme poem.

2.  You write.  I grade!  It must be typed.  It is due on Monday.  It will be the last official grade of the semester.

3.  Do This.... Don't Do That:

1.  Copy the format.  Don't copy the words.
2.  Use the three poetic devices.  Don't copy his and just chnage the words (Riverside We Talk)

Objective:  The students will complete analyzing and discussing their poems.  They will then write their own theme.

2.  Complete mini-poster and discuss.
3.  Discuss your writing assignment:  Break down Hughes" poem format so that yours is similar.
4.  Begin writing your life theme.

2.  Relax (HAAA) at your desk and be ready to be called for your oral question.

BOOK REP{ORT!!!!

Objective:  The students will work on their book report and submit it through Turn it In.

1.  Complete registration to Turn it In.  If you get the message to enter a Password, click "forgot password" and they will send you an email with a new one.

2.  Submit your paper when finished to Turn it In.  It will scan your paper and look for any plagiarism.

3.  Book Reports and Books are due tomorrow.

4.  Oral Questions are tomorrow.

5.  650 points.  Tomorrow.  Only.  Tomorrow.

Book Report: Yesterday I had three parents "talk" with me about the stress of the reading....

Objective:  The students will work on their book report.

1.  Get lit book.  Discuss yesterday's story.  If the discussion is good, then we won't have an assignment.

2.  Work on book report.  Your parents seem to think you're stressed.  You should have made better decisions earlier, but I will give you today and tomorrow in class just to be nice. :)

3.  Be sure to have signed up for Turn it In.  When you get the email, login, change your password, and make sure you are "enrolled" in my class so you can "submit" your assin=gnment.

Objective:  The students will discuss how they should read to determine theme.

1.  Find your Monte Cristo CD Project that is graded.  Share your grade with all group members. If a member is in another class, leave it for them to see it.

5.  Book Report.  It is due this Friday.  I WILL NOT ACCEPT LATE PAPERS AT ALL!  If they are not in my hands by Friday, I will not grade them.  Get on Aeries and see what it will no to your grade if you don't do it.
