Are you relaxed now?

Objective:  The students will read an example of a poem that would be a great theme for the life of a teenager and then complete their own.

1.  Get folders and lit books from back.
2.  WP # _______
3.  It's Raining in Love assignment.
4.  Complete your Theme Poem.  Due tomorrow.  Typed and ready to share.

Homework:  Outside reading.  Due January 15.  Worth 400 points to grade PLUS 250 for page total.

Must be close read:  100 points:
                                  Highlights and Annotations (60 points)
                                  Chapter End Notes (three per chapter) (30 points)
                                  Character Page (10 points)

                                  200 points for Written Report (Linked to warrenmlk.com)

                                  100 point for Oral Question

hAPPY tHANGSGIVING

Objective:  The students will complete their Theme poems.

1.  Turn in projects.

2.  Complete your poem.  What "statement about life" do you want to make as a sophomore at King?

3.  Type your poem.  Be sure the format is EXACTLY like the one that Hughes wrote.

4.  NO HOMEWORK for vacation.  Maybe relax and read.

Projects Tomorrow

Objective:  The students will discuss Langston Hughes' Theme and then write their own.

1.  Ger folders and the theme poem out.  Get a highlighter and pen ready.

2.  Discuss the elements of the poem.

3.  Write your own "Theme" for your life.  Must have an "issue" that you have and a clear statement that you want to make to society.  It's probably not going to be "black and white" like the sample.

4.  Type your poem.  It will look exactly like the original.  It will be titled "Theme for Honors Lit" and it will give Langston Hughes credit for the format.

Objective:  The students will complete the video and discuss what they think of this version vs the original novel that was read in class.

Objective:  The students will continue the movie version of Monte Criso as well as complete projects.

1.  Your folders are out of control!  And people are being SLOBS in here.  Stop leaving trash on the ground.  Stop leaving papers for me to pick up.   Have a little bit of school pride and stop being LAZY!

Last Week of Anything Monte CRisto

Objective:  The students will see the most recent adaptation of the Dumas classic.

1.  If you haven't taken the test.  Take it today.

2.  Projects:  Remember!!!  The CD MUST play your songs.  I WILL NOT LISTEN TO A FLASH DRIVE!!!!  IT MUST PLAY or it can't pass.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO TRY TO BURN SONGS!!!!!!

Homework:  You need to get your outside book.  It needs to be approved by me EVEN IF IT IS ON THE LIST!!  When I write "OK" in it, then that means I approve it.

Objective:  Pass

1.  Get scan from me and the test.

2.  Take the test.  Read the questions carefully.  There are NO MISSPELLED words.

3.  When you are done, scan it and bring the test and the scan to me.

4.  If you have the novel close read, bring it to me with the test.

Monte Cristo Review Game: ESPN's Around the Horn

Objective:  The students will play a game where they use their knowledge of the entire book to discuss Monte Cristo and earn points for their team.

SIT in any TEAM ROW that you want.

You can use any notes for this.  You can also take notes.  You CAN NOT use them on the test, but they may help you study for it.

1.  Teacher will bring up a topic.  Each group has 45 seconds to respond.  Each time someone says something SMART and EDUCATED, a point is earned.

Winning Group gets 20 points of EC.

Test tomorrow.

Objective:  The students will try to earn extra credit by knowing details of Monte CRisto Chapters 51-60 that the teacher doesn't know.

1.  Put your Stump the Teacher Questions on your desk for me to look at.  PUT ALL PHONES AWAY.  If you have a phone out at all during the activity, you will not receive points.

2.  Quiz for participation.

3.  Game or Essay.

4.  Finish Monte Cristo on your own.  No assignments.  No questions.  Just read it by Next Wednesday (you have the day off).

Stump the Teacher or Essay Tomorrow: Your Choice

Objective:  The students will prepare to teach their story to the other students.

1.  WP #23
2.  Notes
3.  Story Group Assignment
4.  Stump the Teacher Questions.  One paper.  2 questions with answers for each chapter.  Pass the quiz, you get to "play."  The quiz will be one question from any chapter that I choose (probably one of the later chapters like 59 or 60, but maybe not...)

Objective:  The students will read the short story that they will present on Thursday's class.

1.  Get folders and lit books.  Get out your Stump the Teacher questions.  I want to see what you have done.  Remember, if you don't pass the Quiz, you will not get the chance for extra credit, and you will go into the other room and write an essay.
