Objective:  The students will pass the district semester 1 final.

1.  Use your computer.  Log in to Google Classroom.  

2.  Go to our class and there should be a test assigned to you.  

3.  Try HARD!  That will mean that YOU HAVE TO READ THE SELECTIONS!    And I will give you 50 points for doing it.  If you fail miserably, I will not give you 50 points.

Projects are done.  There were several without names.  So look at Aeries and if you have no grade, find your project and bring it up so I can put into the grade.

I:  Close Read (annotate) the essay.  

II:  Answer the following questions in an AP style/quality paragraph.  This will not be 5 sentences!

  1. What is the author making fun of?
  2. Is the satire bitter and mean or is it gentle and humorous?  Explain with quotes.
  3. What is this satire’s intended purpose?  What would the author like to see changed?
  4. What is the theme?

3.  Have a great week off.  Take your outside book with you on all of your trips.  Read it by the fire.  Read it to your dog.  Be safe and enjoy your time off.

Objective:  The students will know the expectations for the Outside Reading Requirement.

1.  Outside Reading:  Due 9.  I will not accept late work for any reason.  Hospital, Covid, nothing.  This is a long term assignment, which means that I don't have to accept it even if you are absent with an excuse.  See ed code:  :)

2.  Requirements:

Pages: 250 (250 points)

Close Read:  100 points

Oral Questions:  100 or 70 or 50 or zero.

Objective:  The students will pass the Monte Cristo test if they read.

1.  Get scan sheet and a pencil.

2.  Write your name on the top.  If you make me look it up, I will take 10 points off the score.

3.  Finish test.  Be careful of tricks.  There are no "misspelled words" that I know of.

4.  If you close read the book put your name in it and put it on my desk.

1.  Complete poem.  Make sure that you have personification, assonance and alliteration.  Make sure you have a clear Theme that I can figure out.

Tomorrow we will discuss the Outside Reading Report requirements.

Objective:  The students will discuss analysis of poem and then write their own "Theme" for their life.

1.  Discuss your analysis poster.

2.  Write your own theme poem.  Use his format, give him credit for copying the format, then write.  It will look similar, but it will be different.  What do you have to teach me (society) about yourself and the world as a 15-16 year old growing up in this crazy word of 2022?

This will be typed.  100 points.

1.  Today I want to give everyone time to work on Monte Cristo and the assignment.  You don't want to have to write the essay for the highest score of a 60.

Objective:  The students will finish the play.

1.  How you will read Chapters 51-60 of Monte Cristo:  Stump the Teacher 

Read Chapters 51-60 by next Thursday:  For each chapter, write two HARD questions and answers.  Next Thursday, we will play Stump the Teacher.  You will be able to ask ME any question that you like, and if I don't know it, you will get 5 points of Extra Credit on the assignment.

You will have a ONE Question Quiz before we play.  If you don't know the answer, you can not play, you will write an essay instead.

WP The Beginning of Grief and Night

     Many student’s struggle with difficult novels or challenging texts.  They often think that 1 reading of the work is enough.  This belief, leads to primary comprehension at the surface level.  But they are frequently unwilling or unable to discover deeper meanings of multi-layered works.  This is often the case with the short story titled The Beginning of Grief and the novel titled Night.
