Day 98

Objective:  The students will write Part 3.

1.  Get out your computer, sources and whatever else to write.

2.  Listen to instructions for Part 3.

3.  Write.  It's due Thursday printed at the beginning of class.  Not printed... less points.

2023 Information (2-4 pages)

This is the most important part of the paper.  It is where you have to prove your thesis.

Continue using your information and using quotes and citations.

Be sure to cite a minimum of three sources in the entire paper (if you only used one in the Bio section, then you need to cite two here).

Checklist:

Have I cited at least 3 sources?  As an editor:  Ask the writer how many sources were cited in Part II.  If they say “One,” then make sure they have 2 cited in Part III.  Less than three sources mean the paper fails.  And so does the editor.

Have I cited all of my sources at least once in a sentence?

Did I use at least 1 print source (mag, paper or book).  As an editor:  Ask your writer which is the print source.  Is it obvious in the citation?  If I don’t see a print source, the paper fails.  Have I used parenthetical citations?

Does each paragraph have a citation?

****  Does my 2023 info prove my thesis?

Is my person worthy of the title Person of the Year?

4.  You will use Citations:  Every paragraph needs a citation

5.  You will use Parenthetical Citations

Example Citations:

According to Seymour Butts in his article titled “Under the Bleachers” from Parents magazine.

Citations include the author, the title and the source.

The website Yellow Rivers by I.P. Freeley, states that “industrial pollution is not the only cause of tainted water.”

The book, How to Write a Novel, by Paige Turner, says that "every good novel begins with a good idea."

DON’T START PARAGRAPH WITH A CITATION

The first time that you use a source, it must be in a sentence.

The second time you cite a source, parenthetical.

In parenthetical citations, use author’s last name if you find an author’s name, if not, use the source name)
