CST Activity: “Two Kinds”

     In the story “Two Kinds” a conflict arises in a chinese American family when a strong-willed mother is bent on seeing her daughter become a prodigy.  She simply wants to be herself.  As the mother pushes the child the young girl becomes de-moralized and angry after several failures.  This is an example of an External, Man Versus Man conflict.

Day 26

Objective:  The students will discuss the new character in Monte Cristo and make a timeline.

1.  Monte Cristo Quiz 11-12 for Period 5.  

2.  Discuss Chapter and make Timeline.  Add new character to the character page.

3.  Two Kinds vocab assignment.

4.  Read Chapter 13 of MC.

WP Number 11:  Everyday Use

     Alice Walker is an American Novelist, short story writer, poet, and social activist. In 1982, she became the 1st African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, which she was awarded for her novel The Color Purple.  She is a modern-day feminist, and her specific brand of feminism includes advocacy of women of color. In 1983, Alice coined the term womanist to mean "a black feminist or feminist of color”.
