Everyday Use

     An inference is an intelligent guess based on evidence in a story and on what you already know.  When making inferences about characters’ readers base many guesses on what characters say and do.  In the short story Everyday Use readers find out what type of person Maggie is through the things that she has done and the things that she says.

Objective:  The students will complete yesterday's story for analysis of characters tomorrow.

Get the blue/green lit books.  Home Reading:  Monte Cristo Chps. 9-10

Everyday Use

 

     Alice Walker the author of “Everyday Use” was born in the small town of Eatonville Georgia.  She was the youngest child of 8 children.  When she was eight years old, she was shot by a bb gun and blinded in one eye.  The resulting scar tissue made her shy and self conscious and she spent much of her time alone reading and writing stories.

Objective:  The students will know important vocabulary for this week's story.

1.  Go over Chapter 4 of Monte Cristo.

Objective:  The students will write a perfect intro for an essay on two short stories.

2.  Go over Long Way Home assignment.

3.  MLA and Inverted Triangle Intro Test (get out your computer).

Read the prompt, set up MLA on doc, write the intro, and print it out for grade.

4.  Bring Monte Cristo tomorrow.  We will start it.

Objective:  The students will analyze "Long Way Home" in pairs or groups.

2.  Long Way Home assignment

3.  Essay Individual Conference:  Rewrites due one week from today.  Next Tuesday.  Staple old copy to new copy.  I will not reread it without old copy.
