Objective:  The students will work on their Monte Cristo Soundtrack Project.

2.  Monte Cristo Music Quiz:  25 points.

3.  Work on Project.

4.  Take the weekend off Monte Cristo.

Day 38

Objective:  The students will complete the Monte Cristo Study Guide for 21-30.

1.  Get three different colored highlighters.  Highlight each type of characterization that you used in your character sketch.  Label each highlight as to what it is:  phys des, TWA of char, TWA other

2.  Discuss Chapter 29 of MC.  Three Strikes.

3.  Chapter 30 and Study Guide due tomorrow.

Day 37

Objective:  The students will complete the character sketch using all the methods of indirect characterization.

1.  Surprise Quiz for Periods 4 and 6.

2.  Discuss the Chapter.

3.  Complete Character Sketch:  Direct to Indirect:  Make sure the paper is set up in MLA.  Bring it printed out to class tomorrow.  You will need more than one sentence of each method of characterization to pass.

4.  Read Chapter 29 (XXIX) and complete the MC Study Guide.

Day 36

Objective:  The students will do some creative writing by creating their own character using thr three methods of indirect characterization.

This is a fun assignment.  

Discuss Monte Cristo Chapters 26 and 27.  Add Luigi Vampa to Character Sheet:  Others

1.  WP Number 11.  Get a brand new paper, set it up with heading and title (WP Packet 11-20).

2.  Direct to Indirect Writing:  Get the handout and LISTEN to the directions to make sure that you do it totally correct to earn the points.

3.  Read Chapter 28

Day 35

Objective:  The students will discuss the transition from Monte Cristo Chapters 25 to 26.  They will also complete the Characterization Chart for Everyday Use.

1.  Hand in Everyday Use Questions and WP Packet 1-10 for grading.

2.  Read with me Chapter 26 beginning.  What do we notice?  Timeline.  And Character List update.

3.  Complete Characterization Handout.

4.  Read Monte Cristo Chapters 26-27.

Day 33 and 34

Thursday and Friday

Objective:  The students will use "Everyday Use" to analyze the characters and how they are presented.

Thursday:

1.  WP #9

2.  Complete Everyday Use handout (it says test but it's not).  Use the book, you need integrated quotes.

3.  Read Monte Cristo Chapter 25

Friday: 

1.  WP #10 (you will now have a complete packet of 10.  We will turn them in on Monday)

2.  Characterization/Local Color handout:  Use the book.  You need quotes.

Day 32

Objective:  The students will finish reading Everyday Use and then pass back all work in the folder in the back.

Get a book and hand in Everyday Use Vocabulary.

1.  Discuss Monte Cristo reading of Chapter 23.

2.  Move some names on the character sheet.

3.  Finish the story.  You will work with it on Thursday and Friday.

4.  Pass back all work in the folder.  Check aeries to be sure that you have credit for everything that you have turned in.

Homework:  Monte Cristo Chapter 24 and Soundtrack Project!!!

Day 31

Objective:  The students will read 1/2 of this week's story.

1.  Grab a green lit book.

2.  Monte Cristo Quiz Chapters 21-22

3.  WP Number 8

4.  Read 1/2 of Everyday Use

5.  Homework:  Monte Cristo Chapter 23 Reading

Day 30

Objective:  The students will know important vocabulary for this week's story.

Objective:  The students will analyze and write about one of the biggest metaphors/symbols in the book.

3.  Using your handout and the notes/quotes that you have written on it, write a solid paragraph that begins with the following Topic Sentence:

     Dantes' escape from the Chateau D'if was written by Dumas to be one of the most important metaphors in the book.

4.  Read Chapters 18-19

 

DURING OFFICE HOURS TODAY!  Some of you are not following the No Phones part of being here.  Please Limit the use!  Or find another place to go for office hours... said as nicely as I can. :)

1) Tell the students that we will be in our homerooms on Tuesday!

2) Tell them to schedule for next Thursday's Office Hour (9/22) before they leave your room.  They can do this at any time if you want to make this announcement at the beginning.

Day 27

Objective:  The students will read and analyze Dantes' Escape and try to figure out its symbol.

Make sure you have picked a place to go for tomorrow's Office Hours.

1.  Discuss Chapters 15-16

2.  Read Chapter 17 and complete the questions.

I have to grade these essays so just chill and finish the chapter please.

Day 26

Objective:  The students will complete the reading and analysis of "Two Kinds"

1.  Grab a lit book.

2.  Finish the story from where we stopped.

3.  "Two Kinds" handout.  Work in pairs.  But both turn in a paper.

4.  Discuss MC Chapter 14.

5.  Read Chapter 15 and 16 (8 pages).  If you can't read 8 pages, I really question why you are in an honors class.

Day 25

Objective:  The students will read half of this week's story.

Day 22

Objective:  The students will know important vocabulary for this week's short story.

1.  Hand in Essay 2

2.  No Quiz today:  A day off of reading if you have read Chapters 8-10.  If not, catch up today!!!!

Day 21

Objective:  The students will finish their second essay.

I graded all of the rewrites but I left them at home (sorry) so the grades will be updated tomorrow.

1.  MC Chapters 6-7 Reading Quiz (10 points)

2.  Discuss the chapters

3.  Finish Essay 2 with a simple closing paragraph.

4.  Have someone proof read and edit your paper AFTER YOU SPELL CHECK IT YOURSELF!!!!

5.  Read Monte Cristo Chapters 8, 9 and 10 and finish the study guide questions due tomorrow.

6.  Print out Essay 2 for turning in tomorrow!  Come to class with it printed!!!!

Day 20

Objective:  The students will discuss Chapter 5 of MC and then work to complete their thirsd paragraph of the essay.

Thank you to those who brought it to my attention that the students couldn't sign up for or make changes to their Tuesday Office Hour Session today.  The system was set up improperly by the company, but it is now fixed.  

Here is when students can sign up for each session.
