“Long Way Home”

Like Bradbury’s “The Pedestrian” Charles Waugh writes of what he thinks the future will be like in his story titled Long Way Home.  The story has a father thinking, about the day that his son left his home.  Jack the son went to become a space explorer.  Most fathers would be happy about this profession for there son, but this decision means that he will never see his son again.

1.                             2.          3.           4.          5.

“The Pedestrian” versus “Long Way Home” Essay

Writing Situation:  Many authors of science fiction present ideas of what they think the future will be like in their literature.  Some of them present a society where its citizens have no control of their everyday lives, while others present a society where the citizens have free will and choice.

Writing Directions:  Using “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury and “Long Way Home” by Charles Waugh, explain both authors’ idea of what they feel the future may hold for society.  Then, tell which story presents the most likely to happen scenario based upon the world today.
