Objective:  The students will continue watching the modern adaptation of Monte Cristo and complete their projects.

Objective:  The students will complete switch papers with a partner and catch all simple errors, check to be sure that all the quotes are used and cited properly.

1.  Share your paper with a partner.  EDIT and check to be sure that all FIVE quote types are used.  The paper can't pass if it does not have all FIVE types.  THERE ARE NO REWRITES on this essay.

Monte Cristo Final

Objective:  The students will show that they have read the novel by passing an easy (ish) multiple choice test.

1.  Get scan sheet and test packet.
2.  Read the questions carefully.  Pick the answer that is MOST correct.  I took out all of the vague/problematic questions from the past, so it should be easier.
3.  Turn in when complete.

Don't forget the projects that are due next Friday (that I introduced 2 months ago and hat I am sure you have all been working diligently on).

Second Book Report:  January 10th.  Pick a book from the list that gets you past or close to the 500 pages that you need for the semester.

Last Day of Monte Cristo

Objective:  The students will know what to expect on tomorrow's final of Monte Cristo and they will also work on the MC essay.

1.  Final discussion:  Review MC Intro Notes (there are about 5 questions from that).  60 multiple choice.  20 Identify the speaker quotes, and 20 True False.  (different for Period 5).

2.  Complete "Catch the Moon" and turn into basket for points.

3.  Work on MC Theme Essay

Objective:  The students will continue writing their essays using strong detail and examples to support their theme from Monte Cristo.

1.  Get books and folder.
2.  Continue work for 15 minutes on Catch the Moon while I check Paragraphs 1 and 2 on the essay.
      (Note:  Some of you think that a 5 sentence body paragraph is going to be sufficient.....  ROFL)
3.  Work on Body Paragraph 3.  The middle of the books development of the theme.
4.  Finish book by Friday........  Period 5, your test is on Thursday.

1.  Get folder.  Look over the Chapter 3 Review for a second (especially what we covered yesterday).

King Kids Against Cancer

Goals: 

  • To promote Cancer Awareness on Campus.
  • Help promote, organize and work the Seniors, Staff and Softball Against Cancer Game.
  • Aid Students, Adults and Kids in the community affected by or with cancer.
  • Be a TOTALLY FREE club with no fund raising requirements.

Ideas:
  • Form a partnership with Loma Linda or another closer hospital to help with cancer patients (for example:  Visit a kid during his Chemo and play Playstation with him)
  • Provide "Best Wishes" cards to staff, students who have someone affected with cancer.
  • Promote Club each month to staff of King by handing out free Cup of Noodles (with cancer prevention tips)
  • Walk in the Walk of Life with our own team.

1.  Caderouse is a good actor.  What does he do and say that shows he is a lying con man?
2.  What are several things that the priest does that shows you that he is actually Dantes (and you should know it even if I didn't tell you).
3.  In our book, it looks like Caderousse gets off free.  But what does he say or do (or have) that shows he really is one of the bad guys who deserves Dantes' revenge?
4.  The priest says one of the main themes of the book while talking to Caderousse.
5.  What has happened to two of the main bad guys?  Why will this only make Dantes' revenge more sweet?

Objective:  The students will complete writing the first three paragraphs and begin the persuasive part of the paper.

3.  Finish Expository Paragraphs (explaining the stories.  Remember, in Long Way Home the son is leaving for 200 years... you better explain that!!)
4.  Write your third body paragraph.  Form your argument.  Then find an article that you can use to support it by using facts and quotes from it.

Homework:  Catch up on Monte Cristo if behind.  And do some outside reading!  It will be a nice weekend to sit around the pool, watch Oregon beat Cal by 40 points, and READ!

A Day to Write

Objective:  Students will use the day to write their two expository (he said, he said) paragraphs using as much detail as possible from each story.

1.  Discuss any questions on the study guide chapters.
2.  Write the next two paragraphs of your paper.  Expository=Explain.  Explain both stories to your reader (me) as if I have never heard of the stories before.  Note:  This is NOT A SUMMARY of the story.  This IS an EXPLANATION of the story that uses literary terms and analysis.
3.  Find your nonfiction informational article which will support your thesis.  Print it out.  Read it.  Highlight information that would be good in your essay.

Homework:  Monte Cristo Chapters 16-17.  Short and easy 14 pages!

I will look at any essays today if you have them.  This will be the second day in class that we have worked on the writing, so there should BE NO LATE papers.  They all should be well written and free of easy errors.

Objective:  The students will see three great (or not so great) examples of MLA format and Inverted Triangle Format Intros for the paper we are writing.

1.  Get your folder.  No CST Today.
2.  Outside Reading Requirements Discussion.   400 points to grade.  10% of semester grade.
               a)  Active Reading 100 points (Highlights and comments, Character Page, Three Chapter Notes.
               b)  Oral Question   100 points.  If you get the first one right, you're done.  70 points for the second
                     50 points for the third.  If you miss all three, you didn't read the book.  And you get NO
                     POINTS (of the 400) and NO PAGE CREDIT!
               c)  Book Report 200 points.
3.  Let's see some examples of your Intro Paragraphs and use of MLA.
4.  Write the body of your paper.

Objective:  The students will write an incredible essay displaying accurate reading, in depth analysis and their best writing

3.  Write your essay on your own paper.  Include heading, a "catchy" title and five well written, very legible writing.  Use one side of the paper only.

Homework:  Have a fun, safe three day weekend!  And try to order/buy the outside book of your choice from the list (or some other book that you think will be approved and help you someday in college).

The Cancer Softball Day!

Objective:  The students and teacher will discuss their final project and the Final Exam.

1.  Discuss Final Project.
2.  Final Exam.  We will take the district final exam.  Here is how it works:

a)  If you have a LEGIT "A" in the class.  You don't have to take it.  That does not mean I am telling you not to show up!

b)  If you get an "A" on the Final, your grade goes up 3%.  "B" on the Final, your grade goes up 1%.

What a Good Friday!

Objective:  The students will pass the JC Final by showing knowledge of the play and the author.

1.  Get a pencil and your typed poem to turn in.Highlight and label the the three poetic devices.
2.  Take the test.  Follow the directions.
3.  I will scan it as soon as everyone is done so that you can go on break a happy, relaxed person.

When we get back we start Lord of the Flies and then Night.  Think about how you will finish your last pages of reading while also reading those two books in the ten weeks remaining in the school year.

Extra Credit Review Game

Objective:  The students will complete in teams to see who knows the most about Julius Caesar for tomorrow's test (and for 10 points of EC).

Good Morning!

1.  Get your folders.  (Look to see if it is standing up or lying down.  If it is lying down, you lost 5 points yesterday on some random score in the gradebook).
2.  Quickly pass back all work in folders.  You can use all work, notes, etc. during the game.
3.  Review game.
4.  Study the quotes with a friend.

If I don't see you tomorrow (you know, because it's Good Friday and you're a good Catholic), then have a great break!

Objective:  Students will use the Peer Editing Sheet to make a final assessment of their partners Research Paper.

1.  Get Peer Edit Sheet and fill out the appropriate information.

4.  Return paper to writer with Edit Sheet stapled on top.

2.  Put it all together, with Works Cited page, into one document.

         2)  Click "Headers and Footers"
         3)  Scroll over to the right margin and Type your last name.
         4)  Click "Insert Page Number"
         5)  Click "Close"
2.  Library Research:  Today:  Focus only on 2012 Information.  If you can't find enough good information on 2012, then you may want to change your subject!

Zero Period:  Monday:  Research at home until 6:45, then met in the library at 7:00 when they open.
