Objective:  The students will finish something that they were assigned 4.5 months ago. :)

Satire Number 2

Objective:  The students will analyze a modern satire.

1.  Get the handout.

2.  Review the purpose of satires.

3.  Complete assignment.

4.  Book Reports (due Thursday.  Don't expect me to grade them if turned in on Friday.  Won't happen)

Deep thinker #3....

Objective:  The students will analyze a piece of lit that requires them to think deeper than usual.

1.  Turn in Haiku

2.  Get SOAPSTONE Handout

3.  I will hand out the lit piece.

4.  Analyze, Listen, Analyze, Think, Analyze, and Fill in SOAPSTONE sheet.  NO PHONES OR TALKING!!

Objective:  The students will complete Night.

1.  WP Test #1 (100 points):  Find the ten errors.  Circle and make correction: 5 points each.  Under WP, make the number list and identify what type of error it is: 5 points each).

2.  Finish Chapter 8 and 9 of Night.

3.  Complete Night Haiku and type

4.  Turn in typed Haiku tomorrow.

Tough, AP, deep reading number 2

Objective:  The students will analyze a great, deep piece of literature.

1.  Get the story.  DO NOT WRITE ON IT!  YOU WILL NOT BE CLOSE READING IT.

2.  Read it quietly, trying to determine the deeper meanings of the piece. Try to identify:

a)  Theme
b)  Symbols
c)  Key passages that develop both of these.

No reading of Night today unless you want to.  The next chapter is long, so you may want to start on it.  We will resume it on Monday.

Objective:  The students will see a short video and make a connection to chapter 3 of Night.

Objective:  The students will read through night with the intent of judging exactly what type of literature category it falls into.

Objective:  Students will see the correct interpretation of yesterday's poem.

Let's See What You Have Learned This Year About Reading and Analyzing a Difficult Piece of Lit

Objective:  The students will read and analyze "Nothing Man" by Bruce Springsteen.

1.  Put all phones away today.  If I see one out at any time today, you will recive a ZERO on today's assignment.
2.  Get the handout.
3.  Look at the back of the paper for what you are going to have to analyze.  If there are any questions as to what each of those things are, ask me now.
4.  Close Read the Poem.  Find and label all of the items you need to identify.
5.  Using the bottom of Side 2, create the mini-poster of all the elements of the song.  Include a small graphic or drawing.

Let's see if anyone can figure it out.  And please don't share this activity with students in later classes.

Objective:  The students will critique more of the modern version of LOTF.

1.  All JC Newspsper Posters are graded.  Find your poster, look at the grade, and yell it out when I call your name so that I can get it into the gradebook.

I have a question.... How are they doing a season 2 of "Thirteen Reasons Why"? Didn't the girl die at the end? What is next season going to be called? "14-26 Reasons Why"?

Objective:  The students will critique the modern American version of LOTF.  Or work on Outside Reading.

Objective:  The students will teach the chapter and then finish treading the book.
