What is Dantes' Escape a Symbol of?

Objective:  The students will work in groups to figure out what The Escape symbolizes.

1.  Get with a group of 3-4 kids.

2.  Brainstorm:  What is Dantes' Escape a symbol for?

Symbol:  Something physical (an object, an action, a place, a name, or dialogue) that represents itself as well as something much deeper.

3.  Complete worksheet.

4.  Essay Parts IV and V (The persuasion part and the close)

Due Monday!!!

What should Part IV look like:  Think Quote Sandwich

     Topic sentence:  After looking deeply into both stories and society today, it becomes obvious that "The Pedestrian" is more likely to be what the future will be like.  

Give two or three examples from today's society that prove that:

Counselor Presentation

Objective:  The students will HAVE COMPLETE the first three parts of their expository essay.

1.  Get folder.
2.  Counselor Presnentation
3.  Write Part 4 (How the future will be.  Must use your article in some way) and a simple close (Apply what you have proven to the bigger picture).

Homework:  Type it.  Edit it!  Proof Read.  Clean it up.  Turn in a GREAT draft tomorrow.

Objective:  The students will share some essay beginnings and learn from seeing other's work.  Then they will complete two more parts of their own.

3.  Share two or three essays.
4.  Complete Parts 3 (the second story explanation) and Part 4 (The way you think the future will be)

Good Afternoon!

Objective:  The class will discuss the short story, Long Way Home, and then start writing their second essay of the year.

1.  WP # 10
2.  Turn in WP Packet 1-10 for 100 points.  (If you were a late transfer student, then please make that note on TOP of your paper so that we can give you the correct points.
3.  Discuss "Long Way Home" assignment.  Turn that in too for 100 points.
4.  Writing Prompt.
5.  Pick the article that fits the story that you feel is most possible and CLOSE READ it for your essay.

First Set of Chapters done in Monte Cristo. Is everyone getting it?

Objective:  The students will complete all parts of the first 10 chapters of Monte Cristo.

1.  Get folders.  Maybe get some of your corrected work out of the folder.

4.  Monte Cristo Chapters 1-10 Study Guide.  Complete in pairs.  NOTE:  This doesn't mean that I am giving you permission to just copy someone who has it finished.  What it means is that you can work with someone to come up with the correct answers together.

Sub Today. I expect greatness from you all!

Objective:  The students will read a cool story by Ray Bradbury and analyze its important plot developments and setting.

1.  Sit respectfully for sub introduction and roll.  Be sure you are in your assigned seat.
2.  There is no quiz today on Chapters 4-6 of Monte Cristo, so if you have any catch up to do... Get on it!
3.  Get both handouts from front desk.  Complete all activities listed.  This should take you only one period.  If the sub doesn't mind, headphones and music are OK.

Homework:  Read Chapter 7 of Monte Cristo.  8 pages!

Essay: Now comes the fun part! YOU!

Objective:  The students will complete the final part of the body of their paper.

1.  Follow these directions to SHARE your essay with me.  FIRST:  UNSHARE WITH ME. 
    a)  File:  Rename:  1 Last Name
    b)  Right Corner:  Share:  People to Share With:  rwarren@rusdlearns.net
  
2.  Look over what you have so far:  It should be:
     a)  A intro with a clear subject and a stated thesis.
    b)  A good, specific section where Irish Immigration is discussed (with at least one quote)
    c)  A good, specific section where McCourt's life and childhood experiences are discussed.

3.  Now you get to finish the body.  This is where you discuss YOU.  What has influenced your life (good or bad, positive or negative) that will shape who you are as an adult.

So what is due to morrow?  ALL OF THE ABOVE so we can finish this thing.
