Last Week! Book Reports Tomorrow!!!! NO LATE PAPERS!!!!

Objective:  The students will make any last minute reading, annotating or writing for the Outside Reading Requirement.

1.  Complete Outside Reading or Turn in Report and Book and do the Oral Question.  Remember Book Reports are due tomorrow.  With the book.  I know some of you aren't reading and have used someone else's report from last semester (I have heard!!!), so the oral questions will be very specific.

2.  Discuss Final.

3.  Get it done.

POem 4 and Finish Book

Objective:  The students will complete the last poem in the packet without my help.  Let's see if anyone can figure out the one great visual image created with personification.

1.  I am BUSY, BUSY, BUSY with game stuff so you are on your own.

2.  Complete the last poem in the packet:  "Ex-Basketball Player"

3.  Finish Book.

4.  Finish last Haiku (Due typed tomorrow to the sub)

5.  Bring ALL Books tomorrow to return to library.

POem 3: A Happy One!

Objective:  The students will read, annotate and discuss a poem.

1.  Chapter 7 Quiz if we can't answer some simple oral questions on 6 pages that I jsut read in 7 minutes.

2.  If you fail the quiz:  You have to do a dialectic journal for chapters 7 and 8 and 9.  To make up for the 100 points you just missed.

3.  ""Summer Remembered" poem analysis

4.  Chapter 8 and Haiku

Outside Book Due June 1.  No Late Papers.

Friday:  Bring all lit books to return to library.  Softball Game for Extra Credit Donation.  And Haiku are due.  I will not take them late...

Three people figured out the symbol for 25 extra points.

Objective:  The students will find textual evidence in "The Beginning of Grief" (quotes) that prove that Kevin's mother died of cancer.

1.  With a partner (on one sheet of paper) write the quotes that prove that Kevin's mother died of cancer and that Kevin's shaving of his head is a symbol of it.

A= 7 Quotes
B= 6 Quotes
C= 5 Quotes
D= 4 Quotes
F= 3 or less quotes

And you have 11 days to complete your outside book.

1.  Read Chapter 3 and complete the chapter Haiku

2.  Faction Discussion:  Faction:  A "new" lit term:  Non-fiction novels can't be 100% accurate and true since they are often written years after the events.  So authors have to "add" to their story to fill in the gaps.  Sometimes they add small details to make their piece more interesting and artistic.  Night, before it was picked as a book for Oprah's Book Club, was actually classified as "fiction."  So as you read, try to identify some parts of the book that you could consider "faction."

Objective:  The students will be introduced to Night by the author (who is still alive) himself.

1.  Get folders.  One sheet of paper and a pen.
2.  Oprah interview with Elie Weisel.  Take notes in complete sentences.  MINIMUM of 10 new facts that you didn't know by the end of the period.
3.  Read Chapter 1.  Quiz tomorrow or Wednesday.

Objective:  The students will see a modern literary allusion to LOTF.

1.  Last Day of Extra Credit is tomorrow.  If you have anything to turn in, that's it.

Good Luck on AP Test for those taking one!

Objective:  The students will compare the modernized American version of LOTF to the classic British novel by William Golding.

1.  Since so many of my students have to study for or take the AP Test today, we will do something that will not cause them to get behind in this class.

Happy B Day Obinna!

Objective:  The students will discuss the end of Simon's symbolism and its importance to the overall theme of the novel.
