I will not be negative.... I will not be negative...

Kinda bummed right now. Last night I sat down and planned a cool fun activity for my students. Bought a video. Made something fun, but educational for Halloween.
Then, after having a sub yesterday (I was at a meeting) I return to the grossest, messiest room in my career. Empty water bottles, trash, two fruit chews dropped and smashed on the floor. And worst of all, TWO pieces of chewed gum that were just spit out and left under desks. How can any person think this is OK?
I always hate when a group of people are punished due to the actions of a few. Or how a group is lumped into a negative statement like "Kids today just don't care...."
So I will refrain from punishing the whole class.
But I am really disappointed .

Objective:  The students will continue organizing their paper.  Then they will start writing.

1.  Get all your stuff for the essay.
2.  I am purposely not telling you my thoughts on this issue for a reason.  Or how I would argue my point.  I want to to have original ideas and put them into your own argument.

But, here is the way that I would do it:

1.  Think of 3 things that someone who thinks opposite of me would use for their argument.  3 solid things that they would say that would prove their point.  These would be my three CONS that would be my body paragraphs.  Then I would figure out my PROS and refutations that would "SHOOT DOWN" their ideas.

It is actually pretty simple if you look at it that way.  SO GET BUSY.  If I see you wasting time, then it's due Friday.  And we will do something else tomorrow.  YOUR CHOICE.

Research Day II

Good Morning Everyone...

Sorry I got a little frustrated with some of you by the end of the day yesterday, but it just seems like I am talking to myself in the classroom lately.  Here is an example of just one of the ridiculous questions that I answered yesterday:

Brett:  "Mr. Warren, would Rosa Parks be a good subject for the paper?"
Me:  "What?  Brett... What's the title of the research paper you're working on?"
Brett:  "I don't know."

So, for that reason.  If I see a phone out while I am talking, for ANY reason, I will take it (yes, I know that I am not allowed to... TRY ME!).  And I will give it back after we call your parents on it!

Objective:  Students will complete Day II of research for POY for 2013.

Note:  What do you want to have by the end of the day:
1)  Information for "History or Bio Section" on your person. (1-2 pages of info)
