Objective:  The students will be able to identify the three types of Point of View.

Character Sketch due typed in MLA on Friday.

NEED EXTRA CREDIT??  25 points if you bring a Blood Pressure Machine that we can use in class Thursday and Friday for our assignment/experiment.

No Book Reports are NOT graded...

Objective:  The students will write a character sketch using all the methods of Indirect Characterization.

1.  Get your folders.
2.  Discuss "Direct to Indirect" writing assignment.  33.3 points per part.
3.  Read Monte Cristo Chapter 36:  Toxicology.  The Count "teaches" Madame Villefort about poison...

Note:  We are going to speed things up on Monte Cristo, so be ready!!

Book Report Day

Objective:  The students will show knowledge of their outside book by answering oral questions, showing awesome Active Reading, and through a well written report.

1.  Read Monte Cristo Chapter 35 in class.  It is the Count's visit to the Morrel Family.  You find out what happened to Mr. Morrel before he died.  It's a cool chapter.

2.  Have your book and report ready.  You will be called up one at a time for your oral questions.

Homework:  Relax!

Objective:  The students will pass the lit book chapter 2 test.

1.  Look over your review.  Then turn it in for 100 points.
2.  Use scan sheet for the test.  Do not write on the test.  Thanks!!!
3.  Pass the test!
4.  Read Chapter 34.  Haydee is a character you want on your poster.

5.  Book report tomorrow.  In my hand or in my email box by 2:30 or I will NOT grade it.  No exceptions.  Danny.....

PSAT Day: Over 55 Kids will be absent....

Objective:  The students will use today as a day to catch up on anything they are behind in...

1.  You can do any of the following:
  • Monte Cristo reading and study guide (up to chapter 30)
  • Monte Cristo Projects (listen to your Ipods and find some songs)
  • Outside Reading
  • All that work over there in the Returned Folder....  Put it in YOUR FOLDER!!
  • Extra Credit??
  • Read the next few chapters of Monte Cristo (I have the next study guide if you want it!)
It wouldn't be fair to the others to make them get behind, so USE this time wisely!  Don't just play games and watch stupid Vine Videos!

Let's Talk about the Book Report that You are all almost ready to write. Right?

Objective:  The students will know what is expected on the book report and Active Reading.

King Kids Against Cancer

Goals: 

  • To promote Cancer Awareness on Campus.
  • Help promote, organize and work the Seniors, Staff and Softball Against Cancer Game.
  • Aid Students, Adults and Kids in the community affected by or with cancer.
  • Be a TOTALLY FREE club with no fund raising requirements.

Ideas:
  • Form a partnership with Loma Linda or another closer hospital to help with cancer patients (for example:  Visit a kid during his Chemo and play Playstation with him)
  • Provide "Best Wishes" cards to staff, students who have someone affected with cancer.
  • Promote Club each month to staff of King by handing out free Cup of Noodles (with cancer prevention tips)
  • Walk in the Walk of Life with our own team.

Look at chapters 21-22 and answer the following on one paper in small groups.

1.  Caderouse is a good actor.  What does he do and say that shows he is a lying con man?
2.  What are several things that the priest does that shows you that he is actually Dantes (and you should know it even if I didn't tell you).
3.  In our book, it looks like Caderousse gets off free.  But what does he say or do (or have) that shows he really is one of the bad guys who deserves Dantes' revenge?
4.  The priest says one of the main themes of the book while talking to Caderousse.
5.  What has happened to two of the main bad guys?  Why will this only make Dantes' revenge more sweet?

4.  Chapter 21-22 of Monte Cristo (these are really, really awesome chapters!!!!  Make sure you know that the mysterious white guy from here on out is Dontes in disguise).
5.  Finish, Proof Read, Edit and print Out YOUR BEST WRITING to hand in to me.

Objective:  The students will see how Monte Cristo can be read literally, but also figuratively in order to see the deeper meanings.

3.  Group Activity:  Reading Figuratively:  The Baptism Symbol.
4.  Write your closing paragraph.  Reverse inverted triangle!  Essay due typed, proof-read, and edited on Thursday.
